Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) are a geosynthetic material that integrates bentonite clay with either a woven or a non-woven material. GCLs form a highly impermeable barrier that can replace the need for thick layers of clay, which makes them very suitable for landfill lining projects.
Typically the processed sodium bentonite clay is enclosed in two stiched layers of geotextiles which can be either woven or unwoven. However it can also be encased in layers of geomembranes which provides additional strength.
